How to Get the Most
Out of BreakoutIQ

The better your inputs, the better your analysis. Follow these steps to get a grade you can actually act on.

Step by Step

Enter your ticker and timeframe

Type the ticker symbol for the stock you want to analyze — for example, NVDA or AAPL. Select your primary timeframe. Most breakout traders use the Daily chart as primary and also upload a weekly chart for trend and stage context.

Upload your chart screenshots

You have three upload slots: daily chart, weekly chart, and fundamentals data. The more you provide, the more accurate your grade. Here is exactly what to show on each chart before you screenshot it:

→Daily chart: Show the 50-day and 200-day moving averages, volume bars at the bottom, and the RS line if your platform supports it. Make sure the price axis is visible on the right side.

→Weekly chart: Shows which stage the stock is in and whether the long-term trend is healthy. Include the 30-week or 10-week moving average.

→Fundamentals: Screenshot the Finviz quote page, Yahoo Finance Holders tab, or Yahoo Finance Financials. This gives the AI real numbers instead of estimates.

Using TradingView? It is the best free charting platform for this. Set your indicators, zoom into the base pattern, and take a screenshot with Ctrl+Alt+S on Windows or Cmd+Shift+S on Mac.

Tell the AI what indicators you are using

In the Chart Indicators field, describe every moving average and indicator visible on your chart. Without this, the AI has to guess what each line means. Be specific about the type, period, and color:

→Good: 21 EMA orange, 50 SMA blue, 200 SMA red, volume bars

→Good: 10-week MA yellow, 30-week MA white, weekly volume

→Not helpful: standard indicators or leaving the field blank

Enter your key price levels

This single step dramatically improves the accuracy of your trade levels. The AI reads prices visually from chart images, which can be imprecise. When you enter the exact numbers, it works from ground truth:

→Current price: Find it on Finviz, Yahoo Finance, or your brokerage platform right now.

→Breakout level: The resistance point the stock needs to clear — usually the high of the last contraction in the base.

→Base low: The lowest price during the consolidation. This anchors the stop loss calculation.

→52-week high: Available on any quote page — Finviz, Yahoo Finance, or your brokerage.

Add data URLs for the most accurate fundamental analysis

Paste direct links to the stock data pages. The AI fetches and reads them automatically — no copying and pasting required. These four URLs give the most useful information:

Replace TICKER with your symbol. Contains price, EPS growth, sales growth, institutional ownership, volume, float, and short interest all in one place.

Yahoo Finance — Holders

finance.yahoo.com/quote/TICKER/holders

Shows institutional ownership percentage and how it has changed over the past 4 quarters. Rising ownership means smart money is accumulating.

Yahoo Finance — Financials

finance.yahoo.com/quote/TICKER/financials

Quarterly EPS and revenue with year-over-year comparisons. Used to check earnings growth rate and whether it is accelerating or slowing.

StockAnalysis

Free alternative for clean quarterly earnings history. Useful when Yahoo Finance data is hard to read.

Understand Setup Score vs Trade Score

Your results come back in two tabs. Understanding the difference between them is one of the most important concepts in trading.

→Setup Score grades the chart pattern itself — base structure, volume behavior, stage, fundamentals. It completely ignores what the overall market is doing right now. A great setup is a great setup regardless of conditions.

→Trade Score answers the real question: should you actually trade this right now? It takes the Setup Score and adjusts it based on live market conditions. Three out of four stocks follow the market. A great setup in a hostile market still fails most of the time.

Always check the Trade Score before acting. The Setup Score tells you the pattern quality. The Trade Score tells you whether the environment supports trading it today.

Check market conditions yourself every morning

BreakoutIQ auto-fetches live market data on every analysis. But serious traders also check conditions themselves before looking at any stock. Here is exactly what to look at:

→Are the S&P 500 and NASDAQ above or below their 50-day and 200-day moving averages? Below both is a serious warning.

→How many institutional selling pressure days in the last 25 sessions? An index falling 0.2%+ on higher volume counts as one. More than 4 means caution. More than 6 means stop buying new positions.

→Is the VIX below 20 (calm, favorable) or rising above 25 (elevated fear, hostile)?

Read the risk warning before looking at the grade

Before your grade is displayed, BreakoutIQ evaluates 12 specific conditions that commonly cause breakouts to fail. If any are present, a red warning banner appears above the score. This is intentional — you should understand the risks before you see the number.

→Overhead supply: Prior failed bases or distribution zones directly above current price. Trapped buyers who will sell into any strength.

→Inverted volume: The biggest volume days inside the base are down days. Looks like consolidation. Is actually distribution.

→RS line diverging: Price is holding up but the stock is underperforming the market. Leaders have RS lines at new highs before price breaks out.

→Earnings proximity: An earnings report within 4 weeks turns any trade into a binary bet. The pattern quality becomes irrelevant.

→No catalyst: Every major market winner had a reason institutions had to own it. A setup without an identifiable catalyst has significantly lower follow-through probability.

A high grade with multiple risk factors is still a high-risk trade. The risk banner is not a disqualifier — it is information. Use it to size appropriately and know exactly what you are taking on.

Use the Analyst chat to go deeper

After your analysis runs, the Analyst chat appears below your results loaded with full context about your specific setup. You have 5 questions per session — make them count. The best questions are specific.

→Strong: What is the biggest red flag in this setup? or Walk me through every contraction and what it tells you.

→Less useful: Is this a good stock? — ask about the pattern, the risk levels, and the rules instead.

How to Read This Yourself

Distribution Days

A day when the index falls 0.2%+ on higher volume than the prior day. Institutions are selling. 1-3: healthy. 4-5: elevated, reduce size. 6+: serious warning, move toward cash.

Follow-Through Day

A confirmed market rally signal. After a low, the index surges 1.25%+ on higher volume than the prior day on Day 4 or later of a rally attempt. This is when you start deploying capital again.

Up/Down Volume Ratio

Total volume on up days vs down days over the last 20 sessions. Above 1.2 = accumulation, institutions buying. Below 0.8 = distribution, institutions selling. Between = neutral.

VIX — Fear Index

Below 15: calm, ideal for breakouts. 15-20: normal. 20-25: elevated uncertainty, size down. 25-30: high fear, most traders reduce exposure. Above 30: extreme fear, observe only.
